AGHE's policy priorities relate primarily to federal support for gerontological education, training, and research. AGHE has played an active role over the past 23 years in the reauthorization of the Older Americans Act, particularly Title IV, the discretionary grant programs.

AGHE continually monitors and advocates on behalf of appropriations for the various education and research programs of such federal agencies as the Administration on Aging, the National Institute on Aging, the National Institute of Mental Health Aging Branch, the Department of Veterans Affairs, and the Bureau of Health Professions Geriatric Initiative Branch.

The Association seeks to improve the capacity of its member institutions to serve as advocates for gerontology education and research on their own campuses, in their communities and states.

AGHE seeks to advocate for education and research within the field of aging and to advocate for gerontology and geriatrics within higher education institutions.

AGHE, through The Gerontological Society of America, is a member of the Leadership Council of Aging Organizations.
