AGHE Remembers Dr. Ken Cook
Kenneth Graham Cook (Age 82) Died Monday, October 28, 2013 at his home in Arlington, VA. He is survived by his wife Jane; two children Kenneth Jr. (daughter-in-law Dottie) and Sara; grandchildren Amanda (Manny) Sarnes, Laura, Ben (Sarah), and Kevin Cook; and two great-grandchildren.
Dr. Cook was on the staff of AARP for 21 years, retiring in 1996 as Director of the Andrus Foundation. He continued volunteering at the Association for Gerontology in Higher Education for 12 years. He was past president of the Southern Gerontological Society, a member of the Episcopal Diocese of Virginia's Committee on Aging, and Tri-Diocesan Council on Aging in Virginia. Before AARP, Dr. Cook was vice president of Century Research Corporation, Arlington, VA.
Born and reared in Philadelphia, PA, he was a graduate of Penn State University, earning BS and MS degrees in Industrial Psychology. He received a PhD in Psychology from American University. A long-time member of St. Michael's Episcopal Church in Arlington, he sang in the choir, and served as a Lay Eucharistic Minister, Lay Reader, and with the nursing home ministry.
A memorial service was held on November 16, 2013 at St. Michael's Episcopal Church in Arlington, VA. Contributions may be made to St. Michael's or to the Penn State Dance Marathon (THON) supporting children's cancer research.
